About Silk Weaves

What’s the difference between the different weaves of silk used in the production of Power Song Tribe™ SWAG?

Although there are many different weaves of silk fabric, Power Song Tribe™ SWAG currently uses only three types:

• Silk chiffon
• Silk crepe de chine
• Silk charmeuse

These weaves vary in weight, texture, and translucency.

The term momme is used to refer to the weight of the silk. A higher momme value correlates to a heavier fabric. Momme is abbreviated as mm.

Although the various silk weave types listed above may come in different weights, the specific weights used in this collection are listed below:

• Silk chiffon | 8mm
• Silk crepe de chine | 12mm
• Silk charmeuse | 19.5mm

Silk chiffon | 8mm is a very lightweight, crepey-textured weave. It has the most transparency of the three weaves included here. It has more of an open weave and is more gauze-like in nature. The weave has less of a sheen than the other two types of weave used in the collection.

Silk crepe de chine | 12mm is a medium-weight, crepey-textured weave. It has a tighter weave than chiffon, which makes it much less transparent. It also has more of a reflective sheen than chiffon.

Silk charmeuse | 19.5mm is the heaviest weave of the three included in the collection. A very luxe fabric, it has more of a satin-like texture. It also has the greatest opacity and the brightest sheen of the three weaves included here.

All three of these weaves have their own merits as they each provide their own distinctive character to a garment.

SILK CARE

Although some types of silk fabric not included here may strictly require drycleaning, the silk fabric used by Power Song Tribe™ SWAG is all handwashable. In fact, handwashing is recommended to maintain the rich luster of the silk. Although not recommended, Power Song Tribe™ SWAG pieces may be drycleaned if they are not embellished with semi-precious stones.
